The Art Of Porcelain Restoration.

As a self employed, `Porcelain Restorer' for over thirty years, and having served an apprenticeship for eighteen months, with a prominent New Orleans firm, I am saddened by the lack of restorers in this field. After researching the availability of instructional materials, I conclude, books, manuals on restoration are few. And, most always commercial and combinatorial. In other words, we didn't notice, this rewarding profession is going down the 'tubes'. Or, if you prefer, a dead-end street. The manuscript I have written is nearly 300 pages of raw, down to it instructions, table of contents, introduction, 30 chapters on restoring porcelain, jade, crystal, cloisonné', pewter, wood, plaster, jewelry, dolls, depression glass and the added bonus--advice on how to become self employed. It includes a list of supplies and suppliers.

The manual is just that. It is meant to encourage, not discourage a novice to try this profession or if you prefer to just skim the surface, hobby. `Restoration', sounds technical and may frighten some from reaching for this torch, but it is easy to learn. Categories are endless, fields are noncombatant, and some simple knowledge will encourage everyone to at least venture into this type of book for a look at this unique field. The title `Restorer', carries with it, prestige, self confidence and pride, but more importantly, contribution.

Some of the world's greatest artists work behind closed doors, but not one walked through, without the key to knowledge and the chance to explore the mysteries of antiquities. Having allowed my exuberance about preservation and restoration to show, hopefully, you will see what I see for the future.

Enjoy the manuscript, and I invite suggestions on how to make it the best. Consider me open to new ideas.
