These wings, like many giant scale wings, come in 4 peices. I start by gluing the 2 left
hand sections together, and then the right, using a yellow glue like Pica Glu-it. I now have 2
halves. I lay them on a flat board and lightly sand any ridges or imperfections out with a T-
bar and 80 paper. Once satisfied, I wipe them down with a dry cloth to remove ALL the
foam dust, and set them aside. The skins are then made up in this case using 3/32 balsa
sheets. Take your time to edge match sheets for consistancy. Plan ahead for wing taper to
save a lot of waste. You will make 4 sheets, make 2 with the tips to your right and 2 with the
tips to your left. I get all the sheets lined up for 1 panel and run a line of masking tape
vertically across the grain, pulling them together in about 4 or 5 locations. Then run a line of
tape length-wise over the joints. There should be no gaps. Now flip the taped panel over
and slip your hand under at the first joint and pick up till the sheets open to about 90 degrees
to the next. Run a SMALL bead of Pica Glu-it in the opening and do this on all the joints.
when done wipe off the excess glue with a damp paper towel. I then lay the panels on the
floor(FLAT) with several weights on each till the glue dries. When dry remove the tape
easily so as not to crack the wood. Now take the panels one at a time and and lay on a FLAT
surface and block both sides down with a T bar and 80 paper The best side should be the
side that was taped,so you will have 2 right and 2 left. Now thoroughly wipe the skins of or
use compressed air to remove ALL the balsa dust. I use 3M77 to glue the wings to the cores,
you will need 2 large cans to complete 1 set of wing skins and stab skins. Pick which 2
skins will be the bottom skins and lay them worst side up and spray on a coat of glue on
both, now spray a coat on the bottom of both cores. When done repeat so you have 2 coats
on the mating surfaces. wait about 2 or 3 minutes and carefully position a core over its skin
section and set down, now use hand pressure to ROLL the core down on the skin with the
curvature of the core. Now do the other core in the same fashion. Trim the front and 2 ends
with an exacto to within 1/8 incn. Use a long straight edge to trim the trailing edge to 1/4
inch from foam. Now repeat for the top sheeting.
