Journal

Well here I am!  It is November 24, 2006 and it seems like I was just whining about the fact that the summer is gone.  Now I would like to take this opportunity to whine about the fact that Thanksgiving is over, the Fall is over, and I am now teetering on the edge of December.  I am looking forward to  trying to find a Christmas tree for under $400.00, fighting the throngs of people at shopping malls, and, last but not least, family gatherings.  Ho, Ho, Ho…

I am preparing for a fairly big show in Hot Springs on December 17.  It will feature two vocal ensembles, a trombone ensemble, a piano, a hand bell ensemble, and my beautiful soprano, Deleen Davidson!  It started out as a vocal trio recital and has since grown into the monstrosity that it is now.  I think it will be a fantastic Christmas show, guaranteed to  imbue the Christmas spirit into the hardest heart!

Since I last made an entry into my journal, I have made many trips around the United States, one trip to France, and one to Brazil.  All of the trips had one thing in common, I had to use commercial airlines to get to the gigs.  The saddest part about the whole process is that, in my humble opinion, airlines are just not set up for the numbers of people that they fly.  I actually still wonder where everyone is going?    I  thought that everyone was poor and that we are in (or were in) a gas crunch.  I keep hoping to show up for a flight and find the degree of civility I used to experience when I flew 15 years ago.  I realize the security situation is a great deal more stringent, but the numbers of people flying  is daunting!  In addition, airports now are nothing more than  shopping malls with big food courts attached.  It seems that everything in a modern day airport is geared to separate you from your money.  They strand you at an airport for hours and leave you with very few alternatives.  Basically eat or shop.  I usually choose to find a nice quiet place  where I can contemplate my current plight.  Become as placid as possible and use my food vouchers to buy the tastiest morsels I can find.  When I can’t do any of this, I find a bar, get severely plastered and eat until I can’t breathe.  And of course, hope that I will be able to get out of the airport soon.

My next hop is to Colorado.  It is 14 degrees Fahrenheit there now.  What am I thinking!  Actually, I can’t wait to freeze my snot.  Good times.

I now wait for my next leave...
