Steve Suter is a native New Orleanian. He is currently a member of Bonerama, the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and the John Mahoney Big Band. While in New Orleans, Steve also performed with Al Belletto, Gatemouth Brown, Pete Fountain, and Kermit Ruffins. Steve began his professional career with the New Orleans Symphony in 1981. In 1984 he left New Orleans to attend graduate school. He was then called back to New Orleans to play the first half of the 1984-85 New Orleans Symphony Orchestra season. When he was finished with his obligation, Steve went back to Chicago where he played with the Millar Brass Ensemble and the award winning Asbury Brass Quintet. After Chicago, Steve played with musicals, orchestras, and big bands. He moved back to New Orleans in 1992 and was lucky enough to perform with the world-reknown alto sax player Al Belletto. He lived in New Orleans until August 29, 2006. Steve has also played with Bob Hope, Natalie Cole, the Temptations, the O’Jays, Bobby Vinton, Ray Charles, Gladys Knight, Johnny Mathis the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra with Buddy Morrow, Don Rickles, Rita Moreno, Mel Torme, George Shearing, and Shirley Jones

He has traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada. He has also played in France, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, Italy, Ireland, Scotland, Mexico, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and Taiwan.

Steve keeps a very busy schedule. He plays on the road with Bonerama and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, and performs recitals and clinics around the country. Recently, Steve was on the ABC show “Extreme Makeover:Home Edition” with NOJO. And in the April 2006 issue of New Orleans Magazine, Steve was named a New Orleans “jazz all-star”. |
