As us baby boomers get older, we find that bruises and sprains don't heal as fast and we need to find other types of activity that are none contact sports. Since Louisiana is also called the 'Sportmans Paradise' it's no wonder that fishing and hunting are popular. Golf has also seen a big boon but the number of players in Louisiana far exceed the course capacity.
THANK GOODNESS....Louisiana has finally started to come around in the world of Billiards! Until recently, (last few years) we were forced to play in the dark, dank, and smoky rooms, some filled with people of questionable character and wondering whether you could escape with your life, much less your cue and pocketbook.
The following is a list of some of the places to play while your passing though the swamplands. Of course this list is not complete, but I will be expanding it. As a rule I will only include rooms with about four or more tables, but will add a smaller bar room if it has significant value! These rooms are rated more for the room itself, its facilities, services, and atmosphere. These ratings do not reflect the room's attitude toward promoting pool as in leagues, tournaments, or it's ability to attract top players.

CLICKS

Atmosphere

• Clicks was the first upscale billiards room in Baton Rouge. It has a 21 year old age limit and caters to both young couples, baby boomers, and a fair crowd of good shooters. They do a great job of keeping out the riff raff and maintain an entertaining atmosphere! I go here frequently since I have to pass it on the way home. (What a shame!) The drinks are a litle on the pricey side, but the service is very good and they do know how to treat their customers right! Highly recommended!

LAMBERT'S RBD

Atmosphere

• In case your wondering, RBD stands for Restaurant, Billiards, and Daiquiris. It is the newest billiard room in Baton Rouge and is run by Lambert Louviere, a real billiard enthusiast. He's put together a very nice room with the comforts of home (a good eatery). It's a good 40 minute drive for me to get there, but it's where you will want to go if you want to see some real shootin'. This is where all of the BIG action is taking place in town with players coming in from all over the south central United States. It's also open 24 hours a day, a real plus for us night owls! My only complaint is I wish it was a tad bigger.(The latest rumor says that may happen!)

• This is where RBD'S shines compared to other Billiard rooms in town. They have good down home cookin' with Fried catfish platters and the like. They have good Hamburgers, Poboys, and sandwiches, and a small salad bar. They also have quite of variety of tasty Daiquiris.
• Good selection of longnecks and other alcoholic beverages!

MUGSY'S

Atmosphere

• MUGSY'S is an older establishment that has been newly remodeled with new paint and carpet. This place mainly caters to serious pool players with old timers coming in during the day to play snooker and filled with league players at night! If your looking for a serious pool establishment, this is it!

FAMILY BILLIARDS

Atmosphere

• The 'Family Billiards' name is no coincidence, as this place caters to both the teenagers and older crowd. It is nice to have a place were you can take your youngsters to shoot some pool! The management also does a good job of keeping them in line. They also have a country dance hall attached.

GREENWAY BILLIARDS

Atmosphere

• GREENWAY BILLIARDS is your typical dank billiard room with absolutely no frills. This place caters mainly to serious pool players and is not a place to impress your date. If you like a place you can walk into and then walk out one minute later reeking of cigarette smoke.. then this is the place for you! GREENWAY does serve a purpose as it is the oldest establishment of this type in Baton Rouge. Years ago this was THE PLACE in town with names like Buddy Hall, and St. Louis Louis playing there. Some big money games still occur there, however, other places with better equipment are taking over. It's only history, and my old memories of how it used to be, that almost got it a two ball rating. It's also open 24 hours a day! Enter at your own risk!

THE CUE

Atmosphere

• THE CUE is another room with absolutely no frills. This place also caters mainly to serious pool players and league players. The equipment could definitely use some work! The best thing I can say is they used to have the best selection of music on their jukebox!

LAFAYETTE AREA

WHITE DIAMOND BILLIARDS

Atmosphere

• White Diamond Billiards is the newest (and nicest) upscale billiards room in Lafayette. It's owned by Chris Miller and his mom, Barbara, and caters to both young couples, baby boomers, and a crowd of good cueist. They do a great job of keeping the place sparkling. The light Boxes above each table are custom made leaded glass with the White Diamond logo. They use a lot of mirrors (behind each cue rack) that give the place a nice open feeling. Chris is also one of the states better players which I'm sure helps draw some good competition to his place. I'd definitely go here more often if it wasn't such a long drive for me! Highly recommended!

STICKS

Atmosphere

• Sticks is a nice billiards room in Lafayette but not as big as White Diamonds. It caters to a little younger crowd as University of Southwestern Louisiana is close by. The place is nicely done but nothing to blow you away. The green covered lamps above each table give the place an erie green glow if viewed from outside. Equipment condition could use a little work!
